Meet Your Coach
Emma Gomes, Ph.D. Bioenergetics - Exercise Oncology
Hi, I’m Emma, an exercise oncology trainer and the founder of Project Rx. With an extensive family history of cancer, I’ve seen firsthand how a diagnosis affects both the individual and everyone around them. That experience inspired my mission: to change the way exercise is prescribed and understood in the healthcare and oncology setting.
I hold a Doctorate in Bioenergetics with a specialization in Exercise Oncology, and for the past five years I’ve worked directly with cancer survivors—both in person and online—to help them rebuild strength, reduce treatment-related side effects, and regain confidence in their bodies.
My expertise lies in creating safe, effective, and personalized exercise programs for every stage of the cancer continuum—whether it's recovering after surgery, managing the lasting impacts of chemotherapy or radiation, or navigating advanced diagnoses like bone metastases. Through Project Rx, my goal is to provide evidence-based strength training that is designed to meet each survivor's unique needs.

Certifications
I earned my PhD in an exercise oncology lab, where my research explored how exercise affects cancer-related fatigue. Alongside my research, I served as an exercise trainer in a community-based program for survivors and worked as a clinical research coordinator on a colorectal cancer grant. These experiences allowed me to combine research with hands-on training, deepening my expertise in how exercise can safely and effectively support survivors.
I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and Community Health Sciences from the University of Nevada, Reno, where I worked in the strength and conditioning department for athletics. It was there that I developed my passion for exercise physiology and discovered how training impacts the body— in athletes as well as in individuals managing chronic disease.
